A Martinsville woman has been charged with felony theft after her former employer discovered that more than $8,201.33 worth of cash and tanning cards were unaccounted for.

Celia Lucas, 30, worked at the Nashville business from the fall of 2014 to February 2015, the owner told Nashville Police Detective Brian Lucas. The owner told police in March 2016 that she suspected Celia Lucas had been stealing from her for awhile, but she was finally able to find videos showing thefts taking place.

The owner showed Officer Lucas two videos of an employee matching Celia Lucas’ description receiving money from customers and keeping it instead of putting it in the cash drawer. The owner told Officer Lucas that on days Celia Lucas was working, her drawer would consistently come up short.

The owner conducted an audit of her sales and reported $4,001.33 in cash missing, as well as 84 tanning cards that were to be sold for $50 each. She told Officer Lucas that Celia Lucas also had a vehicle and salon equipment that belonged to her, but she had not contacted her since leaving the store.

She said she hired Celia Lucas knowing she was a convicted felon.

Officer Lucas made an appointment to meet with Celia Lucas at the Nashville police station on March 27. She did not show up, and did not respond to two more phone calls Officer Lucas made to her in April, the report said.

She was charged with theft, a Level 6 felony, on Sept. 14.
