Caleb Joy

With grieving hearts we announce that our dear Caleb Allen Joy has passed from this life.
Caleb was born July 18, 1989, and died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at the age of 28 years old. Caleb left this life from his home in Brown County which he shared with his parents and younger brother.

Caleb is survived by his only child, Brooklyn Danae Briles; his parents, Cory and Michelle (Kelly) Joy ; his brother, Hudson Joy; his maternal grandmother, Judy Kelly; his paternal grandparents, Laurie and Mike Whitaker; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family who loved him with all their hearts.
Caleb was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Hank Kelly; and his paternal grandfather, Kevin Joy.
Born July 18 in Bloomington, Caleb was the first grandchild born to both the Kelly and the Joy families. He lived his entire childhood and the majority of his adult life in Nashville, Indiana. A graduate of Brown County High School, Caleb was born into a construction family and continued doing construction of various practices from the time he graduated high school until his death.
If you asked Caleb, he would have said that his greatest achievement in this life was bringing his beautiful daughter, Brooklyn, into this world.
Caleb was a technical guru and had an aptitude for working with computers and all things “information technology.” It will forever be a great tragedy that he did not pursue this as a vocation; rather, it remained an avocation of his, always.

Caleb was a beautiful soul with an entertaining wit, shy boyish laugh and one of the most handsome “smirks” around. At the end, Caleb, blond and blue-eyed, sported a beautiful red beard that reminded us all that he was, indeed, his momma’s boy. Caleb made friends everywhere he went; he never quite absorbed the enormity — or even the existence — of his reach and influence on those who loved and looked up to him. He gave great hugs and was never selfish or stingy with an “I love you”. If anything, he was a simple man contented with the presence and the conversation of friends or family.

Friends and family are welcome to share in remembering Caleb’s life from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10 at New Life Community Church, 1450 State Road 135 North.
A service to celebrate Caleb’s life will follow at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests donations be made to the Brooklyn Briles Memorial Trust at Fifth Third Bank, 100 Commercial St.; or, if mailed, send to the bank at P.O. Box 1067, Nashville, IN. 47448.

Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

A saying goes, “Goodbyes hurt the most when the story was not finished.”
Caleb’s story was not finished. His passing from this life to the next has left an enormous hole in the hearts of his family and friends. As his family, we pray that you finish out the story of his life by making every day of your own count for good.
