LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Police say a K-9 is recovering after she was exposed to heroin while searching a home in Kentucky.

Local news outlets report that Louisville metro police officer Vadim Dale says in a statement, K-9 Josie was taken to the hospital on Thursday after coming into contact with the heroin, which wasn’t packaged. The female German shepherd was stabilized and is expected to be released within the next few days.

Three people at the home were arrested: 72-year-old James Forney, 34-year-old Ricky Forney and 30-year-old Angela Hughes. All three are charged with trafficking a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia. James Forney and Angela Hughes are also charged with assault on a service animal.

It’s unclear if any of the accused has an attorney.
