BATON ROUGE, La. — A new website aims to help Louisiana parents find information about available benefits and resources for children with autism and other developmental disabilities.

The site, at La.ExceptionalLives.org, offers how-to guides to walk through the complicated processes for applying for benefits and services. It also has a resource directory with information on available therapy services and other programs at schools and health care providers, searchable by zip code and disability type.

The project was spearheaded by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, which unveiled the website Wednesday. Though the effort was aimed at improving autism services in Baton Rouge, it includes information on resources throughout Louisiana for children with a range of developmental disabilities.

The Advocate reports the foundation used a $150,000 donation to hire Boston-based Exceptional Lives to build the website.
