BCIS sports practices start this week

Sports practices at Brown County Intermediate School will start the first day of school. All interested students are required to have a completed physical or physical waiver on file at BCIS before they can participate in a practice or tryout session.

BCIS volleyball tryouts will be Wednesday, Aug. 9. Tryouts will start at 3:15 p.m. and end at 4:45 p.m. All interested athletes will meet in the BCIS gym after school.

Tennis tryouts will be Wednesday, Aug. 9. Boys will start at 3:15 p.m. and end at 4:15 p.m.; girls will start at 4:15 p.m. and end at 5:15 p.m. All interested athletes will meet in the BCIS glass hallway after school.

Cross country practice starts Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 3:15 p.m. and will end at 4:30 p.m. at Brown County Junior High. All interested athletes will meet in the BCIS glass hallway. Student pickup will be at the junior high.

Golf tournament to aid Alzheimer’s Association

The first annual Golf to End Alzheimer’s tournament will take place Sunday, Aug. 13 at the Salt Creek Golf Course, 2359 State Road 46 East.

The entry fee is $50 per player and includes a cart. A portion of the entry fee benefits the Alzheimer’s Association.

Registration will begin at noon with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

Sponsors sought for charity golf tournament

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and the Brown County Literacy Coalition will co-host the sixth annual golf tournament Thursday, Sept. 7 at Salt Creek Golf Retreat, 2359 State Road 46 East.

Registration starts at noon and tee time is 1 p.m.

Proceeds will be used to purchase books for Brown County children, including monthly free books given to preschoolers younger than 5.

Sponsorship packages include $150 hole sponsor, $400 hole-in-one sponsor, $500 dinner/snack/beverage package, $750 gold sponsor and $1,000 title sponsor.

Tournament registration can be made for men, women and mixed teams of four, or individuals can register and be assigned to a team. Tournament fees, which include golf, green fees and hors d’oeuvres, are $80 per golfer or $300 per foursome. Register online at indianagolfevents.org/DPIL.

Benefit golf scramble planned in September

The Eagle Open Golf Scramble, at Salt Creek Golf Retreat, is slated to begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17.

This is a benefit for the Brown County High School Athletic Boosters. It costs $300 per team, which includes food, beverages, golf fees and prizes.

Hole sponsorships are available for $150; food and beverage sponsors are sought for $1,000.

Open gym times offered at YMCA

The Brown County YMCA offers open gym for basketball, volleyball and pickleball for players 16 and older of all ability levels, with informal, friendly games.

Basketball is offered from 3 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays for junior and senior high school students; 5 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays for all ages; and 7:30 to 10 p.m. Mondays for players 18 and older.

Volleyball is offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays.

Pickleball is 6 to 8 a.m. Mondays through Fridays, 7 to 9 a.m. Saturdays, and 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The rock wall is open from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays for all ages.

Open gym hours are free for Y members and $3 per non-member.

Restorative yoga session planned downtown

Simply Fitness, 59 E. Main St. on the second floor, has six openings for a Yin/Restorative Yoga session from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14.

Workshop to envision goals offered in October

Simply Fitness yoga teacher Becky Mann will help participants to “set intentions, create visions and begin the journey to goals” during a Vision Board Workshop.

It will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 at Simply Fitness, 59 E. Main St., second floor. A $25 fee includes supplies.

Disc golf league plays every Tuesday

The Brown County Disc Golf Alliance plays regularly in Brown County and new members are welcome.

The group plays Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at Deer Run Park or at the Brown County Country Club, alternating months. In August, it’s the park.

Players of all skill levels are welcome, including those who have never played before. Loaner discs are available.
