Argument about gas money results in battery charge

Police say a domestic battery case started with an argument about gas money to take a woman to the hospital to give birth.

On July 23, Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Colton Magner spoke with a woman who said James Murphey, 46, had shoved her into and over a chair after the argument started, a probable cause affidavit said.

The victim was visibly upset and had bruising on her arm, knee and eye, Magner reported.

The battery victim was not the woman who was about to give birth.

Murphey was charged July 25 with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.
