SAN ANTONIO — Board members for San Antonio’s city-owned electric utility have awarded its CEO a bonus in excess of a quarter-million dollars that pushes her compensation package above $700,000.

The board for CPS Energy on Monday gave CEO Paula Gold-Williams a $290,000 bonus for her work when she was the interim chief executive. The bonus was on top of her base pay of $445,000.

The San Antonio Express-News reports that the bonus and a 10.5 percent increase in salary were based on performance metrics she met last year.

Gold-Williams was named to the interim position in February 2016 and later was chosen as the permanent CEO. She was previously the utility’s chief financial officer.

CPS Energy is the country’s largest municipally owned utility and provides electricity and natural gas to more than a million people.
