Driver locks brakes, truck flips on side

JACKSON TWP. — A Brown County woman was injured July 27 when she locked up her brakes, causing her truck to flip on its side on State Road 135 North.

Police and emergency personnel responded to the 3600 block of State Road 135 North near Grandma Barnes Road at around 8 a.m. Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Colten Magner reported that the 2004 Dodge Durango truck was facing north and was lying on the driver’s side, on the side of the road.

A witness told police that two vehicles were southbound when they came upon a garbage truck with workers collecting trash at a nearby house. The first vehicle passed the garbage truck, but the second driver — later identified as Amie L. Claburn, 44 — hit her brakes instead of passing, causing the brakes to lock up, the report states.

The Durango then slid into a ditch and turned on its side.

Claburn was transported to a hospital by EMS for neck and lower back pain. The officer wrote that he didn’t know if Claburn was wearing a seat belt.

Traffic was reduced to one lane on State Road 135 North for about 30 minutes as crews worked to remove the truck from the scene.
