SAN FRANCISCO — A 15-hour standoff with an armed man who fatally shot a woman and barricaded himself inside a San Francisco home ended when the man exited the home after shooting himself on the chest, authorities said.

The man, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital Monday with life-threatening injuries, said San Francisco Police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan.

The standoff began Sunday night after police received reports of shots fired in the city’s Corona Heights Park neighborhood, prompting a shelter-in-place order for several residents.

Officers were able to take the woman out of the house and transported her to a hospital, where she died, Gatpandan said.

The suspect, who was not identified, exited the house Monday afternoon and was taken into custody and transported to a hospital, she said.
