Kenneth E. ”Kenny” Sanders, 84, passed away Wednesday morning, July 12, 2017 in Brown County. He was a lifelong resident of Brown County.
Kenny was born on June 6, 1933, in Brown County to the late Dale V. and Helen I. (Zimmerman) Sanders. He attended Helmsburg Schools and went on to serve as a private first class with the United States Army. Kenny married Ada Louise Vaught on Aug. 6, 1955 in Brown County. She preceded him in death Oct. 14, 1999 after 44 devoted years of marriage.
Kenny retired in 1998 as a bridge superintendent for Duncan Robertson Inc. in Franklin after 35 years of service. Kenny also enjoyed farming and raising crops on his family farm.
He is survived by his companion of 15 years, Helen Keymon of Brown County; children, Kenny Ray (Sherry) Sanders, Pamela (Glenn) Hochstetler, John D. (DeWanda) Sanders, Debbie (Frank) Hilligoss, Bill D. Sanders, all of Brown County; siblings, Eileen (Woody) Wood of Oklahoma, Faith Sanders of Bloomington, Bette (Jim) Haley and Esther (Johnny) Myers, both of Brown County; 19 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Kenny was preceded in death by two sons, Roger Dale Sanders and Randy J. Sanders; siblings, Arthur, Gary and Daryl Sanders.
Kenny was a fan of bluegrass music and enjoyed playing bluegrass music with his guitar for family and friends. He was honored with “Kenny Sanders Day” at Bill Monroe’s Bluegrass Festival in Bean Blossom for his love of bluegrass music. Kenny and his wife will always be remembered for hosting the annual Sanders Family corn roast at their shelter house for the past 46 years. He enjoyed visiting the local casinos, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
The Rev. Fred Harrison will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15 at Unity Baptist Church, 7361 Spearsville Road in Brown County.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 14 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown.
Burial will be in Unity Cemetery with military rites presented by the Brown County Honor Guard.
