Teens on playground cited for marijuana possession

SWEETWATER LAKE — Two people who were in a group on the playground equipment at Sweetwater Beach were cited for drug possession.

On May 13 at around 11:30 p.m., Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Jimmy Green saw two vehicles, one of them with a door open, and five people on the playground.

His report said he smelled alcohol coming from one of the five and asked all of them if they’d been drinking. They all denied it, the report said. All were given breath tests and one failed — a 17-year-old boy whose grandfather was called to pick him up, the report said.

All of them told officers that they had been to a large party near Sprunica Road, but they didn’t know what road it was on.

Officers searched both vehicles and reported finding marijuana in both of them.

The drivers, Kyle Chenoweth, 18, of Indianapolis, and Amy N. Pride, 18, of Indianapolis, were both cited for misdemeanor possession.

Pride told police that drugs belonged to her boyfriend — who also was in the group — but he said he wouldn’t take responsibility for them because he was applying to be a firefighter and that would hurt his chances, the report said. After everyone was released, the boyfriend told Green that he wanted to take the blame, but the officer told him it was too late, his report said.
