Argument results in domestic battery charge

Police say an argument between a drunken couple turned violent, and one of them is now facing a felony charge.

The victim told police on May 27 that Ryan Kunkle, 32, of Indianapolis, had punched and struck her. A probable-cause affidavit by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Eggebrecht said that Kunkle and the victim were “highly intoxicated.”

Eggebrecht reported that the victim had a swollen and bruised face and abrasions to her arms. She and Kunkle told Eggebrecht that they had argued that morning about cigarettes and a lighter.

She refused medical treatment despite EMS recommendations, the affidavit said.

On May 30, Kunkle was charged with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, but it was elevated to a Level 6 felony since he had been charged with battery involving the same victim in 2011 in Marion County.
