Reminders on signs, sidewalks and crosswalks

If you see a pedestrian who looks like he’s waiting to cross the street in a crosswalk, you need to stop for him; it’s the law, said Nashville Town Council President “Buzz” King. That was one of his monthly “Notes to Note” ordinance reminders for May.

King, who drives the Nashville Express “train” downtown during the day, said he saw several near-misses by drivers who weren’t paying attention to crosswalks last week.

It’s also against local ordinances to put “sandwich board” signs and other items in sidewalks. “I watch people stumble around them every day, and someday, someone’s going to get hurt,” he said.

Speed limit lowered on Ridgeway Drive in town

Ridgeway Drive drivers, slow down. The speed limit on the dead-end street has been cut in half, to 10 mph.

The Nashville Town Council approved the change May 18, from 20 mph to 10. Utilities Manager Sean Cassiday said it was at the request of residents.

Ridgeway has to function as a two-way street, but it’s one of the narrowest streets in town. It also has a blind hill which is a concern for residents, Cassiday said.
