A barn was destroyed and nearby utility lines were melted in an early-morning fire on Jackson Branch Road today.

Firefighters from Brown County (Nashville) and Jackson Township volunteer fire departments were called out around 6:30 this morning at 912 Jackson Branch on a report of a fully engulfed barn.

By the time firefighters arrived, the barn with a metal roof was burning on the ground, said First Lt. Shawn Fosnight with Brown County (Nashville) Fire.

It took about 15 minutes to put out the fire. Fosnight said firefighters were on scene for about three hours, but the majority of the time was spent waiting on an electric company to handle nearby melted power lines.

A passerby reported it; the homeowners were not aware of the fire until they were notified by law enforcement, Fosnight said.
