ANN ARBOR, Mich. — A board member and her husband have given $1 million to the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre and Dance.

The Ann Arbor university has announced the donation from regent Andrea Fischer Newman and her husband, Frank Newman, will support need-based scholarships and facility renovations in the school’s Department of Theatre & Drama. It also will provide money for the “senior theater showcase,” which introduces graduating students to theater professionals in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

The Newmans have made previous gifts to the university. Andrea Fischer Newman received her bachelor’s degree from Michigan in 1979.
