A traffic stop for speeding resulted in the arrest of a Nashville teen Nov. 9 after he admitted to having illegal items in his vehicle.

Nashville Police Officer Michael Williams reported seeing two vehicles speeding on State Road 46 East. Williams and Officer Matthew Hatchett followed them to the entrance of a nearby church and the second vehicle made an abrupt turn into the parking lot.

The vehicle then left the parking lot, “accelerating quickly” westbound until Williams pulled it over at 46 East and Parkview Road, he reported in a probable cause affidavit.

The driver, Kraig Morris, 18, told Williams he forgot something in Nashville and was going back to get it.

Williams reported seeing small marijuana fragments on the center console, the affidavit said.

Morris told Williams he had smoked marijuana earlier in the day and that marijuana was on the console, the affidavit said.

Williams asked Morris to exit his vehicle, and Morris admitted to the officer that he had drug paraphernalia under the passenger seat and a bottle of Xanax in the console that he did not have a prescription for.

Morris handed the items along with a grinder that was in the center console to Williams, the affidavit said.

When Morris arrived at the Brown County jail, Hatchett reported that Morris said he intended to sell the Xanax pills.

Morris also gave police consent to search his cellphone and answered additional questions from police before being booked in, the affidavit said.

Morris was charged Nov. 18 with possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
