Register for youth basketball, cheerleading

Registration is open for Brown County Parks and Recreation youth basketball and cheerleading through Friday, Dec. 2.

Basketball is for fifth- to ninth-graders; cheerleading is for third- through sixth-graders.

Fees are $45 for basketball or $30 for cheerleading, with a $10 discount for each additional child registered.

A mandatory skills assessment will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 in the Brown County Junior High School gymnasium.

Celebrate ‘ride a fat tire bike day’ at retreat

VAN BUREN TWP. — From 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Dec. 3, eXplore Brown County, 2620 Valley Branch Road, will host a bring-your-own fat tire/mountain bike day for $5 per person.

Bike rentals will be available as well.

Run in the park during annual Reindeer Romp

Starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, the 17th annual Reindeer Romp will begin and end at Brown County State Park Nature Center; gate fee applies.

An 8K (4.9 mile) run or 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk, the event is sponsored by Brown County YMCA for its financial assistance program. Reindeer antlers are encouraged, by not required.

Well-mannered dogs can join the romp and enter a “reindog” contest for $5 each.

Register with $20 by Sunday, Nov. 27, to guarantee a shirt. Packets can be picked up at the Y, 105 Willow St., from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3.

Registration fee the day of the race is $25, to be paid between 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. at the Nature Center. A limited number of shirts will be available.

Door prizes and the top three male and female winners of each run and walk will be awarded.

Medals will be given for first place in the following run categories, male and female: 11 and younger, 12 to 14, 15 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and older.

Zumba classes free for YMCA members

The Brown County YMCA, 105 Willow St., offers a Zumba class from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

The class is free for YMCA members. A $3 drop-in fee applies for nonmembers.

Open gym times offered at local YMCA

The Brown County YMCA offers open gym for basketball, volleyball and pickleball for players age 16 and older from all ability levels, with informal, friendly games.

Basketball is offered 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays; volleyball is 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays.

Competitive pickleball is offered from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; social pickleball is from 1 to 3 p.m. the same days. Social pickleball also is offered from 6 to 8 a.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturdays.

For players ages 50 and older, basketball and volleyball are offered from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Open gym hours are free for Y members and $3 per non-member.
