Runners from all over participated in the first Brown County YMCA Hilly Half Marathon in the Brown County State Park Nov. 12.

The marathon was a fundraiser for the YMCA. Runners registered to run either a half marathon, a 10K or a 5K throughout the park.

Before the races began, Brandon Crase, 9, John Zimnawoda and Becky Freeman filled up water and Gatorade cups for the runners at the 5K turnaround.

Brown County High School football players helped to push Joe Pieczko during the marathon. His brother Mike designed and built his wheelchair for him. The players helped Mike to push his brother.

Danny Webb, sales manager for Quaff ON! Brewing Company, and DeAnne Weaver, YMCA employee and race organizer, kept the beer flowing during the Quaff ON! Beer Mile of the half marathon. The Beer Mile was the last mile of the race. Runners who were 21 and over drank a shot of beer — or two — before finishing the race.
