PHILADELPHIA — Authorities say a Philadelphia police officer died after a heart attack at a courthouse in the center of the city.

Police said 41-year-old Officer Douglas Bamberger collapsed at about 7:40 a.m. Tuesday inside the Criminal Justice Center after what authorities said was “a massive heart attack.”

Police and sheriff’s department officials tried to revive him until medical personnel arrived and continued those efforts, but he was pronounced dead about three hours later at Hahnemann University Hospital.

Police said the 16-year veteran of the force was assigned to the court liaison unit. He is survived by his wife and two children.
