PRATTSBURG, N.Y. — A Finger Lakes town is getting its post office back.
The ?Town of Prattsburg in Steuben County has issued a certificate of occupancy for the post office on Main Street.
The building was closed during the summer after being deemed unsafe by the local code office, and postal operations were moved 9 miles to the town of Pulteney with a limited schedule.
The closure of the Prattsburg facility, coupled with the lack of public transportation options in the region, proved challenging and inconvenient for the large elderly population and local businesses.
Concern also had mounted that the Main Street facility would not re-open. Democratic U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer says the USPS will resume operations there by Oct. 30.
