COLCHESTER, Vt. — Records show that Green Mountain Power stands to collect millions of dollars from customers as reimbursement for the utility’s failure to properly document expenses for regulators.
Vermont Public Radio reports (http://bit.ly/2e1p0Dp ) GMP has consistently failed to prove to state regulators that company leaders did their due diligence before and during projects.
GMP is managed by an “Alternative Regulation” model, which allows for more regulatory reviews of spending than traditional regulation.
Opponents contend that the system lacks transparency and allows GMP to collect money from customers that it wouldn’t be entitled to under Vermont’s standard regulation practices.
GMP spokeswoman Kristin Carlson says the utility has provided thousands of pages of documents to support its investments and the alternative regulation system has helped reduce its customers’ electric bills.
