PITTSBURGH — Western Pennsylvania’s top federal prosecutor plans to discuss a report and recommendations on how the region should deal with epidemic levels of heroin and other opioid abuse developed by the University of Pittsburgh Institute of Politics.

U.S. Attorney David Hickton will be joined Mark Nordenberg, the chancellor emeritus, and others from the university at a news conference Wednesday morning in the federal courthouse in Pittsburgh.

Hickton has a working group including doctors, pharmacists and public officials who have been studying the issue. They will also attend the news conference, which will focus on helping law enforcement to work with public health officials on a harmonized response to rash of overdoses fueled by heroin and opioid abuse.

This story has been correct to note that Mark Nordenberg is chancellor emeritus at the University of Pittsburgh, not chancellor.
