PHOENIX — A Phoenix woman who allegedly told police she was using heroin has been accused of child abuse after her 3-year-old daughter was found locked in a closet.

Police say 24-year-old Paige Nicole Adams originally was arrested Sept. 29 on a shoplifting allegation.

Officer later found her daughter alone in an apartment and barricaded in a bedroom inside one of the closets.

Detectives say Adams told them she was high on heroin at the time she left her child in the apartment but didn’t think she would be gone long.

However, police say the child had been left alone for up to 10 hours.

Officers also say they found syringes around the home.

It was unclear Wednesday if Adams has a lawyer yet.

Her next scheduled court appearance is Oct. 17.
