CICERO, N.Y. — Authorities say a teenager has died and two people are injured after three vehicles collided on Interstate 81 north of Syracuse, shutting down the highway’s southbound lanes for about two hours.

State police say the crash happened around 6:30 a.m. Monday near Exit 30 in the Onondaga County town of Cicero. They say a car driven by 16-year-old Kameron Evans of Whitesboro was traveling north when it crossed over the median into the southbound lanes and collided with two other vehicles.

Police say passenger Sean Jewett, also 16 and from Whitesboro, was pronounced dead at a Syracuse hospital. Evans was in critical condition at the hospital, where another driver was in stable condition.

The driver of the third vehicle wasn’t injured.

The accident is under investigation.
