PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia police say a man has been gunned down after stepping out of his house to smoke a cigarette.

Police didn’t immediately release the name of the man struck by a hail of bullets about midnight. The shooting happened in the city’s Wissinoming neighborhood.

Police say the 33-year-old man was wounded in the chest, stomach and legs and tried to crawl back into his home. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators are checking surveillance cameras for clues and say they found 10 shell casings on the sidewalk near the home, as well as one on the man’s porch.

Police haven’t said whether they have a suspect, but they do believe the victim was the intended target.
