RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — A Russellville man has been charged in the shooting death of his wife.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette ( ) reports that 48-year-old Jefferey Ross has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 28-year-old Shantrelle Ross.

He is being held in the Pope County jail in lieu of a $750,000 bond. It was not immediately clear if Ross has an attorney.

Police say Ross fatally shot his wife in their home on Sept. 22.

Prosecutor David Gibbons says Ross previously had been arrested after an alleged altercation with his wife. According to Gibbons, Ross’ wife did not want to file charges so her husband was released two days before her shooting.
