GREAT FALLS, Mont. — Cascade County deputies are investigating after a body was found in the aftermath of a cabin fire in the Dearborn River area in southwestern part of the county.

Sheriff Bob Edwards says the fire at the small, remote cabin about 10 miles west of Interstate 15 was reported at 6 p.m. Monday. After the fire was under control and nearly out, a deputy confirmed a body was found in the remains of the structure.

Detectives and coroners began investigating the cause of the fire and the victim’s cause of death on Tuesday because it was unsafe to enter the structure Monday night.

Edwards says the identity of the victim is not known.
