VAN BUREN TWP. — A major state road will be closed in the spring for construction.

State Road 135 South will close in two places, one in Brown County east of the southern junction with Christianburg Road (7.5 miles north of the junction with State Road 58), and the other in Jackson County a little over 5 miles north of the junction with U.S. 50.

A large culvert will be installed in Jackson County and a new pipe will be installed in Brown County to carry a branch of Hamilton Creek under the highway.

The work will require closure of each section of road for up to 30 days, with the Jackson County project first. It cannot start until April 1, INDOT reported.

The Brown County project will start after the Jackson County section of road has reopened, INDOT said in a press release.

Work must be completed by June 30, the contractor’s agreement says.
