JONESBORO, Ark. — A store supervisor who was recently robbed at gunpoint and abducted has been found dead near an interstate in Poinsett County, police said.
Jonesboro Police Department Capt. Lynn Waterworth said the body of 45-year-old Loretta Ann Pixler of Jonesboro was found early Monday along Interstate 555, about 2 miles west of Marked Tree.
The Dollar Tree assistant manager was abducted Sunday evening as she and another store employee left work. Police said a man wearing a red bandanna pointed a weapon at the pair and demanded money before forcing Pixler into her car and driving away.
“While we were working the robbery, we heard a woman was found dead on I-555,” Waterworth said. “We discovered it was the woman who was taken.”
Waterworth said authorities do not yet know how Pixler died, but noted her body may have been struck by a vehicle. Waterworth said it’s unclear if Pixler was alive when she was hit.
“At this time, we are not certain,” Waterworth said. “That is why her body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office.”
Police said they also found Pixler’s vehicle crashed in a ditch near where she was found. The vehicle was escorted to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for evidence processing.
Police spent Monday talking with store employees and obtaining video shot from security cameras. An employee of a salon supply store near the Dollar Tree said authorities talked to store employees Monday about how to deal with robbers.
“Jonesboro police are continuing to follow up several leads and are also urging anyone who may have been in the vicinity at the time to report anything suspicious,” Waterworth said.
