WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The organizers of an honor flight taking dozens of Vietnam veterans to the nation’s capital for tours of its war memorials are inviting Lafayette-area residents to welcome those veterans home in a big way.
Eighty-five Vietnam veterans are going on Monday’s one-day trip to Washington, D.C., organized by Yellow Ribbon Honor Flight.
The Journal & Courier reports (http://on.jconline.com/2cJfVOt ) Lafayette-area residents are invited to help welcome the veterans’ flight home Monday night at West Lafayette’s Purdue Airport.
Honor Flight coordinator Dana Vann says many Vietnam veterans didn’t get an enthusiastic welcome home from that war, but she says “we’re hoping to change that.”
Honor flights were created to take World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., for tours of its war memorials, but now include veterans of other wars.
