Mary Marguerite Yeager Smith David, age 87, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away Sept. 20, 2016, after an illness in Bradenton.

She was the beloved mother to David Lee (Casey), Robert Daniel and Lucinda Catherine (Ed); dear Nana to Jennifer Lee Smith, Justin Tyler Brown, Heather Brown, Heather Jeanne Hardcastle and Harrison Robert Hardcastle; and loving sister of Ila Bates and Norma Gillette.

Mary was born in Chicago, Illinois, and was raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Decatur, Illinois, Bradenton, Florida, and Nashville, Indiana. She graduated from Nashville High School in 1947 and moved to Decatur where she met her first husband, Robert Lee Smith. They were married Dec. 30, 1952, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1988.

Bob and Mary lived in Decatur for many years, raised their three children and were active members of the community.

Mary leaves behind her dear friends, Alice Jorgenson and Mary Pogue; and sister-in-law, Charlotte; along with nieces Cindy (Jim) Neff and Nancy (Kenny) Waite and their families.

In 1993, Mary relocated to Bradenton where she made many friends and lived close to her children and grandchildren. On Aug. 26, 2011, she married her childhood sweetheart, Dale “Mike” David, who predeceased her on July 15, 2015.

A memorial service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26 at the Sarasota Florida National Cemetery.

Mary was a kind and gentle soul who was a dear friend to many and a wonderful mother and terrific grandmother. We will love her forever.
