FORT DIX, N.J. — Authorities have detonated an old military explosive which was found near Newark.

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst says its ordnance disposal unit safely blew up the Navy explosive on Thursday. It was found earlier in the day.

The base says such explosives were typically buried for disposal or kept as souvenirs by veterans.

There was no connection to the bombings in Seaside Park and New York City, which took place over the weekend.
