Letter: All welcome to family literacy festival Sunday

To the editor:

The Brown County Literacy Coalition, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and the Brown County Public Library are hosting a little festival to celebrate our county’s little readers on Sunday, Sept. 25 downstairs at the public library, from noon to 3 p.m. Storytellers, books, games, food and treats will be available.

To date, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has distributed over 60,000 free books to our county’s children. Eighty percent of our county’s children are already signed up for Dolly Parton’s program of mailing a new book to every child between the ages of birth and 5. The goal of the Literacy Coalition is to raise that figure to 100 percent.

For Brown County kids to hit their reading benchmarks by third grade, reading must be a significant component of their daily life from birth. It is our goal to encourage our children’s lifelong success by supporting and celebrating their earliest learning adventures.

We look forward to welcoming you and your children to our fun little festival.
