FAIRFIELD, Maine — Maine State Police say a body believed to be that of a woman has been found behind the home of a Fairfield woman who’s been missing three weeks.

State Police declined to say Tuesday if the body was that of 34-year-old Valerie Tieman, whose husband told police he last saw her at a Walmart parking lot. Spokesman Steve McCausland said the body was transported to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy and identification.

McCausland said the body was located by cadaver dogs 200 to 300 yards behind the Fairfield home where Valerie and Luc Tieman lived with his parents.

Luc Tieman told police he last saw her on Aug. 30. She was reported missing by her parents on Sept. 9, and state police joined the investigation last week.

This story has been corrected to reflect that the body was found on Tuesday and that that the home belonged to the husband’s parents.
