POMONA, Calif. — Police in Pomona say an anonymous tip led to the arrest of an unlicensed driver suspected in a hit-and-run crash that killed a homeless man in a wheelchair.
Sgt. Robert DeVee says 43-year-old Alejandro Ambriz was arrested Monday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
Investigators suspect Ambriz was driving a gray Saab involved in the fatal crash late Sunday on a commercial street near downtown.
Charles Atterbury died at the scene. City News Service says the 49-year-old Atterbury was homeless and had lost a leg when he was hit by a car two years ago.
DeVee says Ambriz does not have a valid driver’s license. It wasn’t immediately known if Ambriz has an attorney.
