BEAN BLOSSOM — A Brown County man was arrested on preliminary charges of attempted murder, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and battery with moderate bodily injury last night after a fight with his brother.

Officers were called to 5529 Old Settlers Road at about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 6. Dispatchers categorized the call, which was made by a third party, as an “active shooter.”

Greg Pittman, public information officer for the Brown County Sheriff’s Department, said it’s unclear right now if anyone was shot.

One weapon was found at the scene and two more on the suspect, Kenneth Guy, Pittman said. He could not elaborate on what kind of weapons.

A press release from the sheriff’s department said police found David Guy laying in the front yard with a head injury. He told police that his brother, Kenneth Guy, had hit him with something.

An ambulance took David Guy to Columbus Regional Hospital; he was transferred to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Pittman said his prognosis looks good and that he is in stable condition.

Police found Kenneth Guy on Melvin Road, the press release said.

He became lethargic and unresponsive and was taken by ambulance to Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital; Pittman went with him. Once he is released, Kenneth Guy will be booked into the Brown County jail, the press release said.

Pittman estimated both brothers to be in their 50s.

Online court records say David Guy lived at the Old Settlers Road address and Kenneth Guy lived on Melvin Road.

At around 10:45 p.m., Sheriff Scott Southerland conducted a drug investigation at the same address, according to the dispatch log. The results of that investigation are not known at this time.
