Shirley Ann (Toney) Brown of Brown County died Aug. 21, 2016, at Indiana University Health Hospice in Bloomington.

She was 72.

Born March 25, 1944, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Carry Wesley Toney and Evelyn Marie (Robinson) Toney. She met Edward Lincoln “Brownie” Brown while she worked as a carhop in Indianapolis. They were married on March 23, 1959, and he survives.

She grew flowers, enjoyed watching and feeding birds and collected Amish quilts. She avidly supported the activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also played critical roles in the family’s two businesses, Brownie’s Plumbing and Heating and Brownie’s Bean Blossom Inn.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Kathy (Mike) Lewis of Hagerstown, Maryland, two sons, Timothy (Shauna) Brown of Nashville and Michael (Cher) Brown of Nashville; six siblings, Doris Panicci of Mountain View, Arkansas, Frosty Toney of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Karen Snead of Franklin, Debbie Rudd of Greenwood and Penny Smith and Dusty Toney, both of Nashville; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, a brother, Tommy Toney, and a great-grandson, Damien Patterson, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 at Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, 1682 State Road 135 North, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Brown County Memorial Park.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a local charity of your choice.

Arrangements were entrusted to Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home.
