Letter: Share your talents in 4-H fair’s pie contest

0

To the editor:

One of the most overlooked event at our county fair is the pie contest (Tuesday, Aug. 2).

This is a talent that all cooks have, but many have not have explored.

My first experience with making a pie was five years ago for the county fair. I was very excited to bring in my pie offering to be judged. Having no way of knowing if it even tasted good, I watched the judges’ faces for results. Although I did not win, I was pleased with the look of pleasure on the judges’ faces when they took a bite.

I would really encourage all Brown County residents with a flair for food to give this event a go. Pies must be registered in the Extension office from 5 to 6:15 p.m. with judging starting at 6:30 p.m.

This is the one Open Class section where you get to be there for the judging. To make it fun for all, we even give small door prizes to our audience.

The rules can be found in the Brown County Open Class rule book, available at the Purdue Extension office or at the Brown County Democrat website at bcdemocrat.com/2016/07/06/brown-county-4-h-fair-preview.
