Letter: Fear is an enemy to successful peacemaking

To the editor:

The world is coming apart at the seams. To learn how, ask yourself why five times. ISIS, for example, does not have to directly attack. Nations are destroying themselves from within and working-class conservatives are helping. Studies have shown that this segment of the population are, for the most part, under-educated and ill-informed. They thrive on hatred. Hatred is their de facto religion.

ISIS is an extremist religion. According to the Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, “At the root of extremism are radical ideologies, radical religious beliefs and pent-up anger and frustration, all of which can lead to violent acts ranging from hate crimes to terrorism.”

This describes fundamentalist Christians who believe that Satan (a real being) uses reason to deceive the sinful human mind. Reason is bad, faith is good. They are frightened because they have been wound up by Rush and Hannity.

Declaring war on ISIS is akin to declaring war on fundamentalist Christians. It’s not a country. It’s a religion. How do you bomb a religion?

Brexit succeeded because 52 percent of the UK populace, frightened of immigrants, perceived leaving the EU as a means of blocking and ejecting them. These xenophobic people crashed world economies and brought England to the brink of disaster. David Cameron, the prime minister, has resigned. Scotland, Ireland and London want to secede from the UK to remain in the EU.

This is what radical ideologies have done to the UK, imagine what they would do the U.S.: Crash the world economy while we tumble into nadir.

ISIS is winning. And the working class is helping.

Immigrants taking our jobs? Immigrants take the jobs that Americans refuse to do and bring billions into our economy. Most likely, your ancestors were immigrants.

The real culprit of job loss is artificial intelligence. Smart machines are taking our jobs. Fear them, not Hispanics. Instead of complaining, retrain into a different career field or do something positive. Or are you happy on Social Security?

Trump (whose German ancestors were immigrants) is stoking the fires of xenophobia, especially Islamophobia. Most Islamic peoples flee the horrors that ISIS had rained down upon them. They emigrate under threat of death.

The KKK, who is anti-everything, has endorsed Trump. That has to tell you something.

Why are Jews and African-Americans still hated in this nation of freedom? Why are women being forced back into the role of second class citizens? Hatred and fear.

I listened to a Brown County resident tell how he went through three American wives because they were too independent. He was satisfied with a Filipino wife who waits on him hand and foot. He proudly stated that “I have not had to take off my shoes for three years.” I walked away in disgust.

“In time we hate that which we often fear.” — William Shakespeare

So why have working class Christians ignored all that Jesus taught? They cherry-pick the Bible to justify murder of those they fear or do not believe in their personal god.

“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” — Matthew 5:9

“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” — Proverbs 15:1

“Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.” — 1 John 3.15
