Letter: All welcome to aid farmers market committee

To the editor:

Children’s Day at the Bean Blossom Farmers Market was a big success. We had over 200 customers visiting the market to shop, taste, participate in children’s activities and see what goodies will be available as the season continues.

The market coordinators were supported by Brown County Parks and Recreation, YMCA, 4-H/Purdue Extension and Waycross Camp, all discussing their summertime programs for children in Brown County.

The highlight of the market was the blessing of the Children’s Garden and playground. Bishop Cate Waynick, from the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis, visited and celebrated this event with all of the market-goers and the congregation of St. David’s.

The playground and garden will be available to all children in the Bean Blossom and Nashville area as a place to learn about gardening, the earth, seasons, growing and harvesting food and about giving back to the community. This two-year dream of St. David’s Church will be completed soon (as the rain slows down) and we welcome all to enjoy this place.

St. David’s would like to thank the Christ Church Cathedral Women for the grant to purchase the playground equipment.

A wonderful story about the garden blessing arose during conversations this past week about the dedication. A person recovering from an injury was unable to shop personally for the items she needed from the market. Our Vendor Chairperson, Sharon Kitchens, volunteered to help her shop. The customer gave Sharon her shopping list and $85. While Sharon shopped for her, the patron opened the windows to her car and listened to the beautiful dedication and music. Upon returning, Sharon tried to give the customer her change, but she replied, “No, thank you for all you do and please donate the change to the Children’s Garden.”

The Bean Blossom Farmers Market and Children’s Garden are community projects of St. David’s. The market and garden coordinators are all volunteers and we welcome community help to keep these programs going for our wonderful Brown County neighbors and friends.

If you or your group would like to support these programs for the community, please call 812-988-1038 (St. David’s office) and see how you can volunteer your time.
