INDOT: Morgantown bridge to reopen by mid-July

A contractor has been chosen to repair structural damage done last fall to the iron truss bridge over Indian Creek just south of Morgantown.

The Indiana Department of Transportation awarded the $342,000 contract to OLCO Inc. of Batesville to rehabilitate the State Road 135 bridge in Morgan County, INDOT reported today.

The bridge has been closed since April 22, when an inspector gathering information for repair work that was months away decided that it wasn’t safe for continued travel.

INDOT anticipates that State Road 135 will reopen to traffic by mid-July. Under the contract, OLCO Inc. has 45 days to obtain materials and perform repairs, with financial incentives for each day the bridge is opened earlier.

The detour for heavy highway traffic follows State Road 252, U.S. 31, I-65 and State Road 46.

Local northbound traffic on 135 is instructed to use Three Story Hill Road at Fruitdale to cut over to Lick Creek Road and into Morgantown.

From 135 in Morgantown, catch Bloomington Pike on the south side of town; it becomes Lick Creek Road.
