LOS LUNAS, N.M. — A man trying to stop two other men from fighting at a Valencia County apartment complex is accused of fatally shooting them both.

Valencia County sheriff’s spokesman Gary Hall says the two victims, both in their 20s, were fist-fighting around 11 p.m. Saturday.

The building manager, her boyfriend and others tried to diffuse the situation.

Hall says the two men then turned on the boyfriend and tried to grab his holstered gun.

The victims then followed him back to his apartment.

Hall says the boyfriend called 911 and told the victims he would open fire if they didn’t leave.

Hall says that’s when several shots were fired.

Both victims, who have not been identified, died at the scene.

The boyfriend is not currently facing charges.
