Poets Corner: Today I Cried

Today I Cried

Today I cried, not for myself, but for a young woman who felt that she had no one to turn to.

Today I cried, not for myself, but for her family who is overcome by grief and questions.

Today I cried, not for myself, but for her friends, those that were close and cannot understand why she didn’t come to them.

Today I cried, not for myself, but for those that felt the need to say terrible words, post terrible thoughts on social media, and just be cruel to another human being.

Today I cried, because I have experienced firsthand the pain and torment a child has had to endure.

Today I cried, because my child has tried to take their own life because (s)he felt there was no other way to cope with the terrible words, or postings.

Today I cried, because I am grateful my child is still alive.
