Norman E. Eggers, age 95, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, Jan. 12, 2016, at the Hoosier Village Retirement Center in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Brown County and former resident of Franklin.

Norman was born in Robertsdale on March 17, 1920, to the late Charles E. and Caroline M. (Buehler) Eggers. He was a 1937 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School in Hammond and went on to earn a degree in business administration from Indiana University. Upon graduation, Norman joined the United States Navy where he was a first lieutenant, serving as a pilot in World War II.

Norman married Mary Louise (Vandivier) on June 6, 1943, in Franklin. She preceded him in death Sept. 8, 2014, after 71 devoted years of marriage. Together they raised three children, Dick Eggers of Johnson County, Penny (Mitchel) Wald of Baltimore, Maryland, and Molly (Tom) Rizol of Los Gatos, California. He will be remembered by his grandchildren, Chelsea (Cyril Emery) Wald, Jacob Wald, and Dylan, Jagger and Ellie Rizol.

Norman was preceded in death by siblings Charles “Todd” W. Eggers and Richard “Dick” R. Eggers.

He retired in 1980 as a sales manager with the Detroit Diesel Division of Allison Transmissions in Indianapolis. Norman’s memberships included Morgantown United Methodist Church, Habitat for Humanity in Brown County, Johnson County Sheriff’s Horse Patrol and the Tennessee Walking Horses. Norman was also a Beta Theta Pi fraternity member. He retired in Brown County where he enjoyed horseback riding and tending to his property. Norman also enjoyed reminiscing of his days playing football for I.U.

The Rev. Jill Howard will conduct a celebration of life service at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at  Morgantown United Methodist Church, 20 E. Washington St. in Morgantown. Friends may call from noon until service time Saturday at the church. Refreshments will be served in the church annex following the service for family and friends to socialize.

Services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
