A Brown County High School student has died as a result of suicide, the superintendent’s office reported this morning.

The student was a sophomore. She had been a Brown County Schools student since grade school, Superintendent David Shaffer said.

Officers told school administrators of her death this morning, Shaffer said.

Emergency responders were called to her home just after 6:30 a.m., said Greg Pittman, public information officer for the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

“We extend our deepest sympathy to (her) family and friends,” Shaffer said in a press release.

He said counselors would be available for students and staff to speak with today and next week at Brown County High School.
