RICHMOND, Va. — A former Virginia lawmaker who was accused of having sex with a 17-year-old employee has announced that he is running to be Richmond’s next mayor.
Joe Morrissey made the announcement Thursday at a Richmond restaurant.
In a news release, Morrissey touted his experience in elective office and running a private law practice. Morrissey served in the House of Delegates from 2008 to March 2015. He was Richmond’s commonwealth attorney from 1989 to 1993.
In December 2014, the 58-year-old lawyer was convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after being accused of having sex with his receptionist, Myrna Warren, when she was underage. The couple, now engaged, have two children.
Criticizing city administrators, Morrissey says his campaign will focus on education and school infrastructure.
