ANCHORAGE, Alaska — An Anchorage man and his dog were shot Wednesday by a person who claimed to be delivering a package.

Police say the man at about 3:30 p.m. was at his home in the Hillside neighborhood when the doorbell rang.

He opened the door and saw a man carrying a package and walking away.

The suspect turned, said he had a package, pulled out a gun and shot the man in the torso.

Police say the suspect followed him inside and shot and killed the man’s German shepherd.

The wounded man grabbed his own gun and saw the suspect drive away.

The suspect was in his late 20s or early 30s. He was 6 feet tall with short, dark hair. He wore baggy clothes.

The homeowner was taken to a hospital.
