An Indianapolis man was booked into jail March 20 for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and later in the day for theft.

David E. Brown, 47, was pulled over on State Road 46 East at around 4 a.m. Deputy Chad Williams and Nashville Police Officer Tyler Strahl reported smelling alcohol on Brown, that his eyes were bloodshot, alcohol containers were in view, his balance was unsteady and he had an “abusive attitude,” according to a probable cause affidavit by Williams.

A breath test showed his blood-alcohol content to be 0.10. He was booked into jail and posted bond at 1:30 p.m.

At around 8 p.m. Deputy Andrew Eggebrecht and Strahl were called to a local hotel on the report of a man who walked out on his restaurant bill. An employee pointed out Brown, who was reading in the pool area.

The restaurant hostess told police that Brown ate at the salad bar and drank an unsweetened iced tea, then left without paying his $12.96 bill.

Brown denied eating there. Once at the jail, he said the $1.50 in his pocket was supposed to be for his waitress, but he continued to deny going to the restaurant.

Brown was booked into jail at 8:35 p.m. He was charged March 21 with four misdemeanors.
