MASON CITY, Iowa — A 51-year-old man has been accused of sexually assaulting a staff member at a Mason City facility that helps people with mental illnesses.

Mason City police say officers were sent around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday to North Iowa Transition Center. The suspect had fled the scene but returned later and was arrested. The staff member was treated at a hospital and released.

Police say Joseph Wallace is charged with felony sexual abuse. Cerro Gordo County Jail records say Wallace remained in custody Tuesday, pending $10,000 bail. Online court records don’t list the name of an attorney who could comment for Wallace.
