PONTIAC, Mich. — Muskegon’s Mardrekia Cook and Southfield-Lathrup’s Deja Church have been named Associated Press girls basketball Class A co-Players of the Year in Michigan.

Both are coveted college recruits, and both can fill up the stat sheet. Both play for the ultra-competitive Michigan Crossover AAU team. And both are humble and team-oriented enough to gladly trade the honor they now share for a longer run of team success in the postseason tournament.

Others named first team Class A all-state are Southfield-Lathrup’s Antoinette Miller, Holly’s Kaitlyn Smith, Saginaw Heritage’s Moira Joiner, Midland Dow’s Ellie Taylor, East Lansing’s Taryn McCutcheon, Mason’s Autumn Kissman, Detroit Renaissance’s Siyeh Frazier, Detroit Martin Luther King’s Micaela Kelly and Woodhaven’s Hailey Leidel.

Jarvis Mitchell of Wayne Memorial was named AP Class A girls Coach of the Year.
